Our Challenge

S&G Air Conditioning Contracts Ltd were employed by Trefoil Interiors to carry out the design and installation of new air conditioning and ventilation systems to serve the entire Ground Floor of an existing office space in Llanishen, Cardiff ready for a new tenant.

As there was already mechanical ventilation installed on site we were asked to decommission and remove the existing ductwork but retain the Mitsubishi Electric mechanical ventilation heat recovery units hopefully for reuse.

Our Solution

We stripped out all the existing general mechanical ventilation systems but retained the MVHR units. The existing MVHR units were thoroughly tested to ensure they could achieve the correct air volumes and once confirmed they were serviced ready for reinstallation.

Two new Samsung VRF systems were installed to serve the two separate wings. Heat recovery VRF systems were installed so that each individual room within the new tenant’s space had independent temperature control. Ceiling suspended cassette fan coil units were installed throughout.

Following the validation of the existing Mitsubishi Lossnay MVHRUs, we were able to reuse them to meet the design criteria and satisfy Building Regulations. All new supply and extract distribution ductwork was installed together with diffusers, grilles, louvres and attenuators as required.

The ventilation units were upgraded to higher level of filtration to suit the clinical spaces within the premises.

A new standalone Samsung air conditioning system was also installed to serve the tenants comms room.

New dedicated extract ventilation systems were also installed to serve the new shower rooms, kitchenette and cleaners store.

All the air conditioning and ventilation systems were commissioned and balanced.

Our scope of works included the following:

  • Design
  • Validation Survey
  • Decommissioning and strip out of existing ductwork systems
  • Installation of new systems to suit CAT B design
  • Installation of new comms room cooling
  • Testing and Commissioning
  • Client Demonstration
  • Provision of O&M Manual
