Our Challenge
Initially, we were contacted by Tramshed and asked to provide a full mechanical design pack for the HVAC modification works required that could be used for tender purposes. The layout and use of the space was being updated, so we had to ensure that the mechanical services being reused were fit for purpose and could satisfy building Regulations.
Following this, and based on our successful previous works with Tramshed, S&G Air Conditioning Contracts Ltd were employed to carry out the mechanical ventilation works required at the Innovation Station in Newport.
Our Solution
Prior to any works being carried out, we attended site to validate the existing mechanical ventilation systems. The operational status of the main plant was checked together with us measuring and recording the existing air flow rates being provided.
The existing general heat recovery ventilation ductwork systems were modified to suit the new layout over two floors. This included both the fresh air and extract ductwork. The works consisted of supply and installation of new ductwork branches and grilles, together with repositioning of existing grilles and extending the associated ductwork branches where required.
Additionally, we repositioned the existing crosstalk attenuators where required and any return air/extract grilles.
We also installed new toilet extract ductwork branches and grilles to suit the additional WCs.
Upon completion, the complete ventilation systems were air balanced and commissioned to ensure the correct air flow rates are provided to each area. All areas had sufficient ventilation to satisfy Building Regulations following the layout changes.
